Our Mess

How was your 4th? Ours was pretty good. We started the day off with a nice flag ceremony and breakfast with our stake. We then went to a fun BBQ with my Aunt and her gang, which was DELICIOUS! Our evening was not my favorite though, it was spent scrubbing. Long story short – I accidentally left two pots of black beans simmering on the stove then came home to a house full of smoke! Everywhere!

Thank goodness for baking soda, vinegar, and essential oils! We’ve used them to scrub all of our walls, light bulbs, blinds, and shelves. Then baking soda on the mattress, couch, and carpet. We’ve also been running our washing machine NON STOP. We’ve had to wash all of our clothes plus every other fabric in the house. I’m now grateful for our dryer! Since we only air dry our clothes, I’ve wanted to get rid of it for the longest time, but it’s turned out quite useful these last few days and I’m happy it’s here. But we've had so much laundry that we've been using the dryer and the drying racks. So our patio has turned into our second laundry room..it's a mess.

To clear the smelly air we've had the windows and fans running around the clock, drops of lemon oil and vinegar in the humidifier, and cinnamon in a warm oven.

And I can happily say that it’s all working! Yay! There are still whiffs of smoke here and there, but for the most part it’s disappearing. I couldn’t stop kicking myself for such a stupid mistake, but I think sometimes we have little incidents like this so we can learn our lesson and not let big incidents happen in the future. And I promise to never ever leave home with something cooking on the stove again.

  2. I'm glad it was not a dangerous situation. Sounds like a lot of cleaning. LFMF (learn from my fail, or in this case yours). I vow to never leave something cooking again. I have chanced it and didn't have a problem but now I know what can happen.

  3. I am really glad it wasn't worse. The upside, now your house is squeeky clean and that is always a good feeling :)

  4. Oh no. That sounds just so yucky. We clean the same way!!! I love vinegar & oils. My Mom sells DoTerra oils so I have a whole collection going. Love, love, love them. & no dryer? That's cool.
Your Hawaii trip looks AMAZING! Good for you for taking your Mama. What a memorable trip that must have been. XO
